Today’s early-stage startup funding and acquisitions news:

Commerce

Dog walker marketplace Swifto, which calls itself ‘the Uber for dog walking,’ has raised $2.5 million from Benchmark Capital. It appears to be the company’s first round of institutional funding, and the company says the round actually closed ‘a while back.’ Swifto was founded in 2010 and one of its primary differentiators is a GPS app that allows owners to track their dogs while in the care of a walker. Here’s more on the funding, from the company’s press release.

Placester, an online marketing platform for real estate pros, has landed $2.5 million in Seed funding. Investors in the round include new Boston seed fund, Romulus Capital, and Angels. The Cambridge, Massachusetts startup was founded in 2009 and is a graduate of the Boston Techstars Spring 2010 class. More about the funding, from the Boston Herald.
