Amp’d Mobile to Broadcast Live NBA, NCAA and Summer Hoops on Mobile

1/16/07 - Amp’d Mobile, the Los Angeles-based mobile entertainment provider, today announced content distribution deals with the NBA, CSTV and Dime and Bounce Magazines to offer a lineup of live basketball games and highlights for NBA and NCAA games, as well as top summer basketball tournaments.

The company says that the new basketball content will be featured on Amp’d Live, Amp’d Mobile’s premiere mobile entertainment service.

“Amp’d Mobile’s schedule of live basketball programming includes live games from the NBA, NCAA and top summer leagues that will span the entire year and allow basketball fans anytime access to their favorite teams,” said Seth Cummings, senior vice president, content development and programming, Amp’d Mobile.  “We’re especially proud to deliver the first live broadcast of a U.S. major league sports game to mobile, along with a comprehensive and diverse offering of basketball games.”

The company will provide a live video stream of NBA TV, including live broadcasts of NBA games, daily news coverage, highlights from NBA TV’s top analysts and all of the network’s original series, including Tuesday Night with Ahmad, hosted by Emmy Award-winning sportscaster Ahmad Rashad.  Additionally, daily game highlights will be available throughout the season for customers to view at their convenience on a separate made for mobile video channel.

“Amp’d Mobile’s initiative demonstrates the desire that fans have for consuming basketball in any possible fashion,” said Steve Herbst, senior vice president and general manager, NBA TV.  “Through Amp’d, we can deliver NBA TV’s full lineup of programming and provide our fans with a new way to experience the excitement of our game.”

For college basketball fans, Amp’d Mobile is continuing its lineup of live college game broadcasts with CSTV, the leader in college sports, offering top college basketball matchups featuring projected NCAA Tournament teams from Conference USA, the Atlantic 10 Conference, the Mountain West Conference and more.  This will be the second year Amp’d Mobile and CSTV have partnered to bring live broadcasts of college hoops to Amp’d subscribers.

“CSTV continues to connect college sports fans to their favorite teams and sports through all emerging technologies,” said Brian Bedol, president and CEO, CSTV Networks.  “We love how aggressive Amp’d has been in the wireless space and are proud partners in this initiative.”

Rounding out the Amp’d live basketball offering is a series of street ball tournaments programmed in conjunction with Dime Magazine and Bounce Magazine.  Dime and Bounce will provide insider interviews and articles about street basketball.  During the summer they will deliver live coverage and video-on-demand content from major U.S.-based street tournaments, including the legendary Entertainer’s Basketball Classic at Rucker Park, Kingdome, Dyckman and Hoops in the Sun events.

“No other mobile carrier in the U.S. has covered basketball the way Amp’d Mobile will in 2007,” said Josh Gotthelf, CEO Dime and Bounce Magazines.  “Being programmed alongside live NBA and NCAA games is a great opportunity for Dime and Bounce to complement both the pro and college games, going beyond the court and focusing on the basketball lifestyle.”
