Amp’d Mobile Launches Enhanced Search Functionality and New Content Lineup

2/5/07 - Amp’d Mobile, the Los Angeles-based mobile entertainment company, today announced that it has partnered with Medio Systems to launch a new mobile search application.  At the same time, the company says that it has inked development deals with some of Hollywood's biggest players, including Jack Black, Dan Harmon, Rob Schrab and ICEBOX, co-founded by Howard Gordon, the executive producer of “24” and “The X-Files.”

The new lineup of content deals comes on the heels of the company’s recently announced deal with MTV Networks to jointly develop made-for-mobile programming that will be exclusively programmed on Amp’d.  The slate of deals includes an extension of Amp’d’s deal with Donick Cary, co-creator of Comedy Central’s “Lil Bush: Resident of the United States,” the first made-for-mobile program originally developed by Amp’d Mobile that crossed over to linear television.

Amp’d claims that as the only carrier with an extensive in-house development studio dedicated to creating unique and original programming, the company provides Hollywood’s top creative minds with free reign to experiment with non-traditional content programmed to a rapidly growing young audience.

The new search functionality will launch in the first quarter of 2007 and, according to the company, combines an intuitive and effortless user interface with powerful recommendation and personalization technologies.  Amp’d says that the new functionality will provide its subscriber base with a search experience that will predictively aid their search for content and information—allowing users to find what they’re looking for, often within two clicks or less.

The company cites heavy data usage and purchasing behavior among Amp’d Mobile users as a key driver behind the enhanced search functionality.  Amp’d says it has been working for several months to design a unique search offering that would result in faster discovery, real time indexing, and personalized and relevant content.

Medio’s search solution is integrated into the Amp’d live user interface and searches all music artists, ringtones, wallpaper, and games in the Amp’d content catalogue, in addition to searching the mobile web, and providing paid listings.  The application introduces a search interface called dynamic indexing and supports all Amp’d phones.

Amp’d says that its new search application instantly presents search results for subscribers as they tap out search queries while predictive algorithms draw upon hundreds of thousands of likely content results to locate content quickly and easily.  An intelligent recommendation engine provides relevant choices to Amp’d subscribers by pointing out similar content that other customers have already selected or purchased, enabling speedy access to the rich selection of entertainment content available on Amp’d Live.
