Axiom Microdevices Adds Vice President of Operations

3/6/07 – Axiom Microdevices, the Irvine-based provider of fully integrated complementary metal oxide semiconductor (CMOS) power amplifiers (PA), today added Gary Cheek to its executive team as vice president of operations.  The company says that Cheek will be responsible for building and leading Axiom Microdevices’ operations team as well as successfully ramping its CMOS PA products.

“Gary brings a wealth of experience to Axiom Microdevices, and we are very pleased that he has joined our executive team,” said Brett Butler, president and CEO, Axiom Microdevices.  “The cellular handset market is demanding, and our intent is to provide our customers with the highest level of operational excellence.  Gary's experience is critical to successfully scaling our market footprint and achieving this objective.”

Cheek brings more than 20 years of experience in engineering and manufacturing operations to the company.  Before joining Axiom Microdevices, he was responsible for driving foundry operations at Analog Devices Inc. (ADI) and Conexant Systems Inc.  At ADI, his responsibilities included engineering and manufacturing operations, and spanned from business relationships to capacity rationalization and yield management.

At Conexant, Cheek was the senior executive who led the company’s move to a fabless manufacturing model and held responsibility for front-end and back-end operations.  He oversaw all manufacturing, facilities, quality, supply-chain management, manufacturing business operations and procurement.  Cheek also has been active in an executive role with several startups and as an operations management consultant.  He holds a Ph.D. in electrical engineering from the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven in Belgium.
