EdenTree Technologies Launches Configuration Manager
3/5/07 – Newbury Park-based EdenTree Technologies, provider of lab management and test automation solutions for network equipment manufacturers, service providers and enterprises, today announced the availability of EdenTree Configuration Manager, an application that the company says radically reduces software test cycles through automated reconfiguration of computers used in test lab environments.
Specifically, EdenTree says the new product allows test engineers to automate the setup, archiving and restoration of any UNIX, Windows or Linux computer at any time in a fraction of the time it takes to manually reconfigure the computer.
“Configuration complexity is stealing away hundreds of hours of productive test lab time as lab engineers are stuck for days setting up for tests to support expanded product lines and support for multiple operating systems,” said Jay Oyakawa, president and CEO of EdenTree Technologies. “Configuration Manager pays for itself quickly in labs that are constantly upgrading/downgrading applications by recapturing this lost productivity and eliminating unnecessary test beds and devices under test.”
EdenTree says that Configuration Manager automates the process of rebuilding or updating a computer with an operating system and application, reducing the time to between 15 minutes and an hour.
“By and large, test labs have been left out of mainstream server virtualization trend not because they don’t need to better utilize their infrastructure, but because the solutions targeted at IT don’t meet the OS independence and transparency requirements that are crucial to these labs,” said Jessy Cavazos, industry manager for the Communications Test and Measurement Group at Frost and Sullivan. “EdenTree brings unique capabilities to this problem with its Configuration Manager, and we’re optimistic that this pioneering effort will turn into a vibrant part of the industry.”
Configuration Manager is a member of EdenTree’s Lab Operating System suite of solutions, and the company says it integrates seamlessly with the company’s award-winning Lab Manager 5.0 application, a drag-and-drop topology manager and scheduler.
Edentree says each instance of the software can support hundreds of computers and up to 100 terabytes of storage depending upon the storage infrastructure used.
The company says that Configuration Manager is available today for Sun Solaris, Linux and Windows based computers. The price for Configuration Manager is between $1,000 and $5,000 per server, depending on customer configuration.
