Newport Media Elects Dwight Decker to Board of Directors

3/5/07 – Lake Forest-based Newport Media, a fabless semiconductor company supplying products to the mobile broadcast media market, today announced that Dwight Decker, Ph.D., chairman and CEO of Conexant Systems, has been appointed to the company’s board of directors as an independent member.  Decker’s appointment increases the board membership to five directors.

“I am very delighted to have Dwight as a board member of Newport Media. He brings a wealth of leadership and industry experience to Newport Media’s board,” said Mohy Abdelgany, president and CEO of Newport Media.  “Dwight’s market knowledge and expertise will be a great asset as we continue to advance our mobile TV technology and bring products with increased functionality and capabilities to our growing roster of customers.”

Decker, who earned a doctorate in applied mathematics from the California Institute of Technology, served as Conexant’s chairman and CEO from the time of the company’s spin-off from Rockwell International in January 1999 through Feb. 27, 2004, when the company’s merger with GlobespanVirata was completed.  At that time, he became chairman of the board of the combined company, returning to the position of CEO in November 2004.  Prior to the Conexant spin-off from Rockwell, Decker was senior vice president of Rockwell and president of Rockwell Semiconductor Systems.

“Newport Media has established itself as a driving force in mobile TV silicon, and the company’s very talented team has already achieved some impressive engineering firsts in this rapidly emerging marketplace,” Decker said.  “I am pleased to be joining the board at such an exciting time, and look forward to supporting Newport Media as the company continues to develop industry-leading solutions for the mobile TV market.”
