Stickam Hosts ‘Web Tour’
4/11/07 – According to the web site Metal Underground.com (not often cited on StartUp Beat), a band called Psychostick is using Los Angeles-based online video site Stickam.com for a “web tour.” In light of the recent discussion around Justin.tv, this could be an interesting example of the potential of “next-generation” live Internet video, with companies like Stickam leading the way.
Stickam allows simultaneous streaming of two-way interactive “live” broadcasting over the Internet supporting thousands of users. In this instance, the band will be hosting a number of special events using Stickam’s technology to reach fans regardless of geographic location.
According to Scott Flacks, vice president of marketing and operations at Stickam, the web tour was organized by the band on its own, without the help of the Stickam team.
“Because of Stickam ease of use, there is no involvement necessary from Stickam personnel. Our player is so easy to use that anyone can create this type of experience and event using a webcam or camcorder while on the road,” said Flacks.
Flacks also says Stickam will be providing “promotional” support so that fans can easily find the events when they are live as well as details about upcoming live events on the tour.
Stickam says it has more than 500,000 current members and is adding 2,000 to 4,000 more per day.
