eJamming Initial Signups Surpass Expectations

5/11/07 – eJamming, the real-time Internet collaboration technology and service for musicians, says that the company reached its first-month goal for sign-ups within three weeks of its public launch.  eJamming, which is based both locally in Valley Village and Florida, made its official debut earlier this year at the DEMO 07 show.

eJamming provides a virtual practice and recording studio for musicians and singers worldwide though which they can write, rehearse, record, learn and play together over the Internet.  The company says it has solved the latency issues that have hampered collaborative services of this type in the past.

According to chairman and president Alan Glueckman, more than 2600 musicians have signed up for the eJamming service and downloaded eJamming AUDiiO software since it was made available on March 28.  The company also says that about half of its members have already participated in three or more eJamming AUDiiO sessions, more than 83 percent have already recommended the service to a friend, and more than 60 percent cited “saving travel time and effort” as key to their interest in eJamming.

Of course, you realize that NINJAM has been out for a few years now, doing the same thing for free, and perhaps (especially with its REAPER connectivity) better? http://ninjam.com/
Ninjam delays the sound a full measure (2000-3000 mS or milliseconds)- so it's not possible to play or sing quick melodic changes with other musicians. eJamming synchronizes the 48kHz audio streams coming from multiple locations with delays as low as 30milliseconds in the same region to up to 130mS from Eastern US to Seoul Korea. The key is synchronizing the musical tracks among the musicians that make eJamming AUDiiO so useful for writing, recording. teaching and just playing.
I think I'd rather play a measure behind with no detectable latency to the track, 60msec behind, thats certainly a recipe for no quick melodic changes...Especially when you have 24 frets on a scalloped guitar :)
