Fulcrum Microsystems and Teranetics Announce Collaboration

5/21/07 – Calabasas-based fabless semiconductor producer Fulcrum Microsystems and Teranetics today announced a collaboration on what the companies describe as two pizza box-style switching platforms—a gigabit ethernet switch with 10GBASE-T uplinks and a dense 10GBASE-T switch.  Fulcrum and Teranetics made the announcement at the start of the Interop show in Las Vegas and say that both platforms represent complete reference designs that enable original equipment manufacturer (OEM) customers to go to market quickly with differentiated solutions.

Both platforms will be a part of the Ethernet Alliance technology demonstrations taking place at the Interop show this week.

Fulcrum says its FocalPoint chip family is a breakthrough in 10-gigabit ethernet switch chips and features an industry-leading 200 nanoseconds of total latency.  Teranetics says it has developed innovative 10-gigabit ethernet solutions over copper infrastructures based on the 10GBASE-T standard with increased scalability and improved throughput at a dramatically reduced cost that makes ownership of 10-gigabit ethernet links possible for more data centers and enterprise networks.

Santa Clara-based Teranetics is a provider of silicon solutions that enable higher data rates over structured copper cabling.
