Mahalo to Pay Users for New Search Results

6/15/07 – Santa Monica-based Mahalo, the new “human edited” search engine started by famed tech entrepreneur Jason Calacanis, announced this week that the company will pay volunteers up to $15 to “fill in the blanks” in its search results.

The program is called Mahalo Greenhouse, and Calacanis says the first volunteers will be chosen for their background, including “previous work experience at DMOZ, Wikipedia, (or) a well-known blog.”

Calacanis says that contributors also have the option of passing on the payment and having Mahalo donate their fees to the Wikimedia Foundation.  He says the company has earmarked up to $250,000 for donations.
