Newport Media Samples New Mobile TV Receiver Chip

6/4/07 – Newport Media, the Lake Forest-based fabless semiconductor company focused on the mobile broadcast media market, today announced it has begun customer sampling of a new mobile digital television receiver chip.

Called the Sundance NMI310, the company claims the single-chip receiver is the mobile television industry’s most highly integrated mobile TV solution.

Newport Media introduced its first two-chip solution last year and says it has continued to advance the technology in key areas including power consumption, RF performance and speed.

The company calls the single chip integration the “last major obstacle” in the development of its DVB-H standard digital video broadcasting solution that it says will provide customers with enhanced performance and a structural cost advantage.

The company says the chip is currently available in sample quantities and volume production is scheduled to commence in the third quarter of this year.
