Amp’d Mobile Assets Acquired

7/31/07 – A day before its scheduled service shutdown, the assets of bankrupt mobile virtual network operator Amp’d Mobile have been acquired by Prexar Mobile, a company managed by Oakland-based USA Telephone.  Prexar says it will ensure uninterrupted wireless service for Amp’d customers.

The company says Amp’d customers transitioning to Prexar can “for the most part” continue to use their existing mobile phones, and will be able to choose from a suite of calling and text messaging plan options.

The purchase brings to a close a company that had raised more than $360 million in capital, gained a significant subscriber base, and even developed full-length original content, but collapsed under financial mismanagement.
