Helio and YouTube Launch Two-Click Mobile Video Upload

7/6/07 – Westwood-based Helio, the mobile phone service and content provider, has introduced the ability to upload videos shot with Helio devices to a YouTube account with only two-clicks.  The new functionality is the result of an exclusive partnership with the Google-owned online video pioneer.

Helio says the service is free-of-charge for Helio “All-In” members, and allows faster and easier uploads to You Tube that it says comes close to real-time publishing.

Helio and YouTube say the service, designed specifically for Helio, has been optimized for mobile through what they describe as “a close working relationship between the companies” to deliver faster and easier access to content.

Leveraging the QVGA screens and landscape viewing mode on Helio devices Ocean, Drift and Heat, as well as future Helio devices, paired with the Helio 3G network, Helio says its members can browse, search and view thousands of the most popular YouTube videos.  More YouTube videos will be added each week, and the full YouTube catalog should be available this fall, as part of the Helio-specific version of YouTube, according to the companies.

Helio is a mobile virtual network provider, or MVNO, and a joint venture between Atlanta-based Internet service provider EarthLink, and South Korea’s SK Telecom.  The companies announced earlier this week that they were increasing their investment in Helio by a combined $200 million.
