Xirrus Submits Joint Patent Application with BYU-Idaho

7/10/07 – Xirrus, the Westlake Village-based provider of high-performance, long-range wi-fi products, said today that it and BYU-Idaho have submitted a patent application to the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office for “Wi-Fi Availability Assurance.”  Xirrus says the patent and implementation in Xirrus’s Wi-Fi Array product “allows automatic recovery from potential radio lock-ups.”  Xirrus says the patent solution was co-developed during a large deployment of Xirrus Wi-Fi Arrays at the BYU-Idaho campus.

Wi-Fi Availability Assurance allows for automatic testing of Wi-Fi Arrays and initiation of fixes, along with alerting the network administrator of problems, according to the company.

Xirrus has been one of the more active companies in the region this year in terms of new customer wins, announcing 11 new deployments of its Wi-Fi Arrays since January.  It was founded in 2004 by former Xircom executives and is backed by investors that include U.S. Venture Partners and August Capital.
