EdgeCast Networks Makes Public Debut
8/7/07 – Los Angeles-based EdgeCast Networks, which has created a rich media content delivery network, has announced its official commercial launch after operating for a year in “stealth” mode. EdgeCast says it provides each of its customers with dedicated edge space on its servers, providing superior speed and a scalable, globally load balanced architecture that it says supports massive audiences.
EdgeCast joins a number of companies in the content caching and delivery market, but claims that its differentiator is the fact that it separates bandwidth costs from the cost of services, freeing publishers, it says, from the constraints of fixed, contractual bandwidth pricing and management issues.
The company, during its initial year in business, says its services have already been used by the IMAX Corporation for the launch of its brand-new multimedia section on IMAX.com. EdgeCast says it worked with IMAX to ensure that its video content is delivered to visitors without congestion issues.
