Bid4Spots Holds First UK Auction

9/18/07 – Bid4Spots, the Encino-based online auction of radio ad time, says it held its first auction in the United Kingdom last Thursday, marking the official launch of the company’s international business.

Bid4Spots is run in the UK by Auction Media, an event auction service provider.  Paul Mitchard, previously the head of commercial scheduling for broadcaster GCap Media, manages operations, according to the company.

The Bid4Spots site employs “reverse” auctions that allow radio stations to compete for advertisers and bid ad rates down.  It launched in 2005 for terrestrial radio stations and advertisers in the US, and has since expanded to cover Internet radio as well.  In June, the company announced a partnership with eBay to offer radio ad auctions through eBay’s Media Marketplace.

Bid4Spots was founded by radio ad veteran Dave Newmark, CEO of Newmark Advertising, also based in Encino.
