Evolution Robotics Retail Deploys LaneHawk at Pathmark Stores
Tweet9/12/07 – Pathmark Stores has announced that it will work with Pasadena-based Evolution Robotics Retail, a division of robotic technology company Evolution Robotics, and IBM to deploy the LaneHawk Visual Scanning Solution in 10 stores to combat “bottom-of-basket” loss. Evolution Robotics Retail’s LaneHawk uses a patented visual pattern recognition technology to detect, identify and present bottom-of-basket items directly to the point of sale, enabling cashiers to add those items directly to the transaction.
Pathmark, which runs 142 stores located primarily in the New York, New Jersey, and Philadelphia metropolitan areas, says its locations will begin implementation of LaneHawk this month.
The companies say that IBM Global Technology Services, an Evolution Robotics Retail partner, helped Pathmark integrate LaneHawk into its current IT environment.
In addition to LaneHawk, Evolution Robotics says it is also working on projects like ViPR, a vision solution that gives electronic devices the ability to detect and recognize complex visual patterns; NorthStar, a low cost localization solution that enables mobile robots to intelligently navigate within indoor settings using a proprietary micro-GPS system; vSLAM, a vision-based navigation solution that lets robots autonomously build a map of their location and keep track of where they are based on what they see; and ERSP, a software development platform for robotics that includes tools for ViPR, vSLAM and the Evolution Robotics software architecture.
The company is an IdeaLab startup.
