Fonality’s PBXtra Phone System Reaches Usage Milestone
9/20/07 – Fonality, the CulverCity-based open-source IP telephony company, has announced that more than 2,500 customers with 53,000 phones in 50 countries have adopted its award winning business phone system, PBXtra, using it to place more than 130 million voice-over-IP and traditional calls. PBXtra is Fonality’s professional phone system offering that is designed to be purchased, installed and managed by non-technical professionals.
Fonality uses a hybrid-hosted technology based on the open-source Asterisk telephony software. The PBXtra product has the ability to support branch offices, as well as mobile and home-based workers. The offering recently won the PC Magazine Editors’ Choice award in a recent roundup of phone systems, beating out competitors like Huntsville, Ala.-based Digium, and Ottawa, Canada-based TalkSwitch.
Out of the box, Fonality says the three flavors of PBXtra—Standard, PBXtra Professional and PBXtra Call Center support voice-over-IP calling, advanced auto-attendant features, telecommuters, branch offices, drag-and-drop call control, conferencing and intra-office intercom.
The company also offers trixbox, an open-platform phone system targeted at resellers and advanced users.
