Axiom Microdevices Shipping More Than One Million Power Amplifiers Monthly
10/17/07 – Irvine-based Axiom Microdevices, which develops fully-integrated complementary metal oxide semiconductor, or CMOS, power amplifiers for cell phones, has announced that it shipped more than one million power amplifiers in the months of August and September. The company says this increase in monthly volume puts it on track to ship a total of 10 million units of its quad-band GPRS CMOS power amplifiers by the end of 2007. Multiple handsets containing Axiom Microdevices’ product now are shipping in Europe and Asia, according to Axiom, which shipped its first million units earlier this summer.
Axiom says its patented technology allows the use of 130-nanometer silicon CMOS process technology to integrate all of the functions between transmitter output and transmit/receive switch. The company says that its technology achieves what was previously only viable with more complex manufacturing.
Axiom was founded in 2002 with patented technology developed at the California Institute of Technology. It is backed by U.S. Venture Partners, Tallwood Venture Capital and Anthem Venture Partners.
In addition to its Irvine headquarters, Axiom also has sales offices in the United Kingdom, China, Taiwan and South Korea.
