Boingo Wireless Acquires Airport-Based Wi-Fi Networks from Sprint

11/5/07 – Santa Monica-based wi-fi hotspot network operator Boingo Wireless has announced the acquisition of seven airport wi-fi networks from Sprint.  The company says that operations in all seven airports have already been successfully converted to Boingo.

Boingo says that Sprint customers will retain wi-fi access in these seven airports and will gain access to 16 additional airports where Boingo provides wireless services directly.  Additionally, the companies have entered into a roaming agreement that will provide Sprint customers access to Boingo’s global hotspot network.

The acquisition increases the number of airport networks operated by Boingo and its Concourse Communications subsidiary from 16 to 23, covering 37 percent of passengers in the top 100 North American airports, according to Boingo.

Travelers who visit any of these airports can purchase Internet access from Boingo Wireless for $7.95 per day. For frequent travelers, Boingo offers several service options for laptops and Wi-Fi enabled devices. Boingo Unlimited is a monthly access plan for laptops that costs $21.95 for unlimited access to thousands of hotspots in North America.

Boingo was founded in 2001 by EarthLink and Helio founder Sky Dayton.
