Boingo Wireless Expands Wi-Fi Coverage in Southeast Asia
11/1/07 – Santa Monica-based wi-fi hotspot network operator Boingo Wireless today announced a partnership with Thailand’s True Corporation, a wi-fi hotspot operator. With more than 4,000 hotspots in Bangkok and surrounding provinces, Boingo says the roaming agreement represents an extension of Boingo’s Asian roaming network to more than 23,000 total hotspot locations.
As a result of the partnership, Boingo access points in Thailand now include airports, universities, office buildings, cafés such as Starbucks and Au Bon Pain, and popular five-star hotels in Bangkok.
Known as “Wi-Fi by True Move,” Boingo says the network is the latest in a rapid succession of Asian hotspots operators joining the Boingo Roaming System, providing Boingo users with coverage in popular business travel routes from China and Hong Kong to Taiwan, Korea, Japan and all of Southeast Asia.
Boingo says its network now combines more than 60,000 locations from more than 150 wi-fi operators into one worldwide network. Boingo users can connect to any of these locations with a single account using the free wi-fi client software, which combines more than 660 network names into one “Boingo Wireless” network to simplify identifying and connecting to commercial wi-fi networks.
Boingo Mobile subscribers pay a monthly flat rate of $7.95 for unlimited high-speed Internet access at thousands of hotspots worldwide in places like airports, hotels, restaurants, cafes, and convention centers. The company is offering the first month of service free for a limited time.
Boingo was founded in 2001 by EarthLink and Helio founder Sky Dayton.
