Evolution Robotics Debuts Breakthrough Technology at CES
1/7/08 – One of the more interesting stories coming out of CES from companies in the Los Angeles area is Pasadena-based Evolution Robotics, which today unveiled what it says is a system that allows robots to be aware of their environments and perform tasks with autonomy. The system is called NorthStar 2.0, and at its debut at the CES show, the company is touting the system as “a new era of ‘super smart’ robots for the consumer market.”
The company already has a customer for NorthStar—San Diego’s WowWee Group—which will use the product in its Rovio “telepresence” robot, also making its debut at CES this week. WowWee develops and distributes hi-tech consumer robotic and entertainment products.
Evolution says that NorthStar works like a combination GPS, RADAR and autopilot system rolled into one, designed to operate in everyday places like a home or office. The company is also touting the system’s price, saying that Northstar costs 1/100th to 1/1000th the cost of equivalent systems used in research and industrial applications.
A number of other new products are in development around Northstar, which Evolution says includes a new generation of intelligent floor care robots, super smart toys, and telepresence robots that allow the user to connect to the home or office while away.
Evolution Robotics is an IdeaLab startup.
