Evolution Robotics Retail Releases New Version of Visual Scanner
Tweet1/9/08 – Pasadena-based Evolution Robotics Retail, a division of robotic technology company Evolution Robotics, has made a new version of its LaneHawk Visual Scanner solution available for the Microsoft Windows Server 2003 operating system. LaneHawk is designed to prevent bottom-of-basket losses at retail locations. According to the company, this type of inventory loss accounts for 0.1 percent of front-end sales, which equates to ten dollars per lane, per day in a typical store.
Up until now, LaneHawk has run exclusively on a Linux-based platform, according to Evolution. The company says that several thousand stores are currently under contract using the product. Evolution asserts that retailers using LaneHawk have reported decreases in bottom-of-basket loss by 80-to-90 percent since deploying the technology.
Prior to LaneHawk, most efforts to reduce bottom-of-basket loss have depended on cashiers visually checking the bottom of customers’ carts—using mirrors, stickers, training, or other detection devices—and then manually scanning those items, according to Evolution. Using its patented visual pattern recognition, or ViPR, technology, LaneHawk is able to detect, identify, and present bottom-of-basket items directly to the point of sale, enabling cashiers to add those items directly to the transaction.
