Fonality Hooks Up with Dell

1/24/08 – Dell has announced that it will begin bundling Culver City-based open source IP telephony company Fonality’s open-source software with its enterprise servers.

This is obviously a big deal for Fonality, which last year was one of the more active companies in the region in terms of partnerships and expansion of its small-and-medium sized business-focused product mix.  Dell seems particularly suited for a partnership with Fonality, with its small-office, home-office focus.

While the companies aren’t divulging specifics about the partnership, apparently the deal’s revenue sharing arrangement is split right down the middle, with hardware revenue going to Dell and software going to Fonality.

Fonality uses a hybrid-hosted technology based on the open-source Asterisk telephony software for its products.  Its flagship offering is its PBXtra product for business that has the ability to support branch offices, as well as mobile and home-based workers.  The service won a PC Magazine Editors’ Choice award last year.

The company counts Azure Capital and Intel Capital among its investors.
