Today’s early-stage startup funding and acquisitions news:

Clip, a mobile payments provider for Spanish-speaking communities, has raised $1.5 million in Venture funding. Investors in the round include 500 Startups, Alta Ventures Mexico and ACCION. Much like Square, the Clip card reader fits into iOS and Android devices for secure mobile credit and debit card transactions. Mexico City and Redwood City, California–based Clip previously secured $425,000 in Seed funding. The startup was founded by Adolfo Babatz, who formerly headed up Customer Engagement in Latin America for PayPal, and Vilash Poovala, who was responsible for Visa’s V.me Consumer and Merchant Acceptance and UltimatePay before founding Clip.
