Personal motivation-focused startup BeSomebody lands $1M from E.W. Scripps

BeSomebody, startup built out of a social media campaign by founder Kash Shaikh, has closed a $1 million initial funding round from the E.W. Scripps company. The campaign started in 2009 with Shaikh’s use of the #besomebody hashtag on Twitter. Shaikh then started the ‘#besomebody.’ personal motivation focused blog in 2011. The company claims to be the ‘World’s Platform for Passion,’ and says its content reaches four million people in 180 countries. Founder Shaikh is a former marketing executive at GoPro and Procter & Gamble.
