Funding and Acquisitions Roundup: Conscious Company picks up $400,000 in Seed funding for its monthly sample subscription service with a ‘natural’ focus

Today’s early-stage startup funding and acquisitions news:

Commerce

Conscious Company, which offers Birchbox-like monthly sample products box service with an eco-friendly theme, has closed a $400,000 Seed funding round. The round for the now Portland, Oregon-based startup came from Birchmere Ventures and an unnamed Angel investor. The company also runs an ecommerce site where subscribers can buy the products they get in their boxes. The company was founded in 2011 in Santa Monica, California. Here’s more on the funding, from TechCrunch.

Mobile

Never shy about acquiring small startups that mesh with its vision, Facebook has done it again by picking up cloud-based mobile app development platform Parse, which launched in 2011. Parse is Y Combinator grad that has also raised Angel and Series A funding rounds totaling $7 million from some impressive backers that include Ignition Partners, Start Fund, Google Ventures, Menlo Ventures, SV Angel, Yuri Milner. Here’s blog post from Parse about the deal; and one from Facebook as well.
