Crowdfunding
Crowdtilt, which targets groups that want to crowdfund but may not be good fit for Kickstarter or Indiegogo, has closed a $12 million Series A funding round. Founded last year, the company is a Y Combinator graduate that previously raised $2.1 million in Seed funding last May. According to TechCrunch, investors in the Series A include Sean Parker, Andreessen Horowitz, and existing investors that include CrunchFund, DCM, and Felicis.
Mobile
Personal assistant app and Siri competitor Sherpa has landed $1.7 million in Angel funding. The app was released last October and so far is only available to Spanish speakers. More on the funding, from The Droid Guy.
Nearpod, platform that allows teachers to integrate in-class learning with students’ own mobile devices, has raised $500K in additional Seed funding. Investors include NewSchools Venture Fund and Angels, according to TechCrunch.

ImageBrief, stock images discovery service and marketplace, has raised $700K in new funding to take on Getty Images—the stock photo standard. The New York City-based company was founded in Australia in 2011 and this latest funding brings its total outside funding to $2.2 million. More about the funding from the Australian Financial Review.
