Funding and Acquisitions Roundup: Edtech rules the day—Online learning startups JoyTunes and Curious.com close significant funding rounds

Today’s early-stage startup funding and acquisitions news:

Education

Music learning startup JoyTunes has secured $1.5 million in Seed funding. Investors include Genesis Partners, former Steinway CEO Dana Messina, Founder Collective, Kaedan Capital and Angel investors. The startup, which is based in both Israel and the U.S., was founded in 2010 and essentially gamifies the music learning process. Here’s more on the funding, from TheNextWeb.

One I missed a couple of days ago: Video-based online education platform Curious.com has landed hefty $7.5 million in Series A funding from Redpoint Ventures and Angel investors. Curious joins an increasingly crowded space and not only connects teachers to potential students, but also provides a marketing and monetization platform for the teachers. The startup was founded in 2012 and is based in Menlo Park. More details on the round, from TechCrunch.
