Art Tech Startup Specializing in Digital Canvasses Raises Funds for Production and R&D
New York, NY (May 26, 2016) – Today, Meural, a NYC-based startup that specializes in the creation of a digital, connected canvas that streams art directly to users’ walls, announced the closing of $2.5 million in seed round funding. The company plans to allocate the funding toward enhancing its marketing and R&D efforts, as well as augmenting current production and manufacturing infrastructure. The seed financing was led by Corigin Ventures with additional participation from Barbara Corcoran Venture Partners, as well as angel investors Francois Bennahmias (CEO of Audimars Piguet) and Elio Leoni Sceti (former CEO of EMI, and current board of directors member at AB InBev) among others.
Meural’s digital canvas is a next generation connected device and discovery platform created to fundamentally change the way people personalize their surroundings. Equipped with an intuitive gesture control system, as well as a meticulously engineered matte LCD display encased in a handcrafted maple wooden frame, Meural’s product expertly marries technology and design in the pursuit of democratizing access to art from the past, present, and future. The company has also forged several partnerships with major institutions and artists – Bridgeman Images, Sedition, Lomography, and Eyes on Wall – to source the wide breadth of artwork that’s available for users’ selection.
“We couldn’t be more thrilled to have the support and experience of our new partners,” said Vladimir Vukicevic, CEO, Meural. “I believe this latest funding infusion is a validation of not only the product we’ve developed, but also our vision to level the playing field of accessibility to art, and ultimately give people a new avenue for the discovery and exploration of an age-old cultural form of expression.”
In addition to the aforementioned hardware and content, Meural’s flagship product comes with a free app that lets users interact and control all the major features of their digital canvas with the click of a button – everything from selecting and curating new artwork, to discovering, and even uploading their own. The device is also available in three elegant frame styles/colors (black, white, and lightbox), allowing consumers to have the freedom to choose just the right look for their home décor.
Founded in 2014, Meural came to market with a subsequent goal to also revolutionize home decoration in a way that’s unique and affordable. The company’s offering will help to mitigate the sometimes daunting task of personalizing one’s home, and fundamentally inject a blend of technology and design into a home furnishing that can be equally beautiful and utilitarian.
