POMCO continues to lead evolution of campus safety technology with new device features, investment and adoption

Panic button option, financial backing and new contracts drive growth

Albany, N.Y. – Already an innovator in campus safety technology with the easiest, fastest and most reliable personal safety device for college students, POMCO (Peace of Mind Company) today announced several product and company developments.

The pocket-sized POM safety device, launched this fall, will now be augmented by a new product, the POM Panic Button. Instead of instantly activating a two-way voice call with campus security, the one-button push will make a silent call to authorities. Institutions have the option at time of purchase to select the traditional POM or the new POM Panic Button, which the company believes will be especially popular with faculty.

“In meeting with more than 100 institutions, we heard that campus stakeholders, particularly faculty, want to be able to make a discreet, silent call to campus security,” explained AJ Leahy, co-founder and president of POMCO. “The new POM Panic Button gives users another level of assurance while maintaining popular features such as location tracking, personalized user profiles, call recording and compact design.”

A new investment from New York-based ARC Angel Fund will fuel additional innovation at POMCO. The group invests in mobile and technology companies with high growth potential and joins other backers as the company is closing a $1 million total investment round.

“POMCO was founded to bridge the gap between outdated campus safety technology and state-of-the-art consumer technology that most consumers carry in their pocket,” said POMCO CEO Chris Kelly. “As this new investment demonstrates, the POM has the potential to revolutionize campus safety.”

The company has also secured a new contract with Husson University in Bangor, Maine, which will begin a phased-in implementation this spring. The POMCO system, already in use at The Sage Colleges in upstate New York, can be quickly and easily implemented on campus, with cloud-based software and no installation.
