Snowflake, the cloud-based data warehouse offering data storage and analytics services, has become a goliath in the market. The company’s moat lies in its data technologies that let organizations analyze and make sense of unstructured data. Amid the generative AI boom, companies are ready to spend to use huge datasets to their advantage.
In fact, Jefferies analyst Brent Thill recently named Snowflake as his top AI pick for the back half of 2024 as he expects the stock to benefit from the rising demand in infrastructure and software. Thill believes companies like Snowflake will benefit as companies begin to install and deploy AI software in the proof of concept stage of the AI cycle.
Other companies have also taken notice. SQream, a data processing platform based in NYC and Israel, this week announced the launch of its native connector that brings its cloud data solution, SQream Blue, to the Snowflake environment.
SQream’s native Snowflake connector, available on AWS and GCP Marketplace, allows SaaS big data projects to seamlessly integrate SQream Blue’s GPU solution into Snowflake’s data warehouse platform.
The launch of the Snowflake connector from SQream allows users to unlock cost-performance savings by offloading data loads to SQream Blue without exporting data or migrating information from existing Snowflake workflows.
Further benefits include seamless integration, reduced costs: optimize resource utilization, and data efficiency.
The company also released the results of its performance benchmarks that broke existing benchmarks for speed and cost efficiency.
According to the nonprofit Transaction Processing Performance Council, which developed the TPCx-BB as a benchmark for objectively comparing big data solutions, SQream Blue outperformed Snowflake and its X-Large Virtual Warehouse, handling 30 TB of data 2X faster and at 1/2 of the cost.
Via a company press release, some tasks exceeded this even further with a 5X performance improvement.
SQream Blue processed 30TB of data at the equivalent of reading 25,000 copies of the Oxford English Dictionary in less than an hour.
“Cost-performance is the new metric for big data analytics in 2024, and SQream Blue’s proprietary GPU based technology has shown that processing and analyzing high volume, unstructured datasets can be done at speed while reducing budget,” said Matan Libis, VP Product at SQream.
“Now, enterprise users can leverage the benefits of Snowflake’s data warehouse platform and complement these with the force of GPU processing thanks to the launch of the native Snowflake plug-in connector.”
