At StartupBeat we like to celebrate the brilliant ideas and businesses that passionate entrepreneurs have brought to life, while shining the spotlight on these brave founders, and we are not alone in this mission. The Global Entrepreneurship Network (GEN), a platform of projects and programs in 170 countries that aims at making it easier for anyone, anywhere to start and scale a business, is celebrating Global Entrepreneurship Week (GEW), a celebration of the innovators and job creators who launch startups that bring ideas to life, drive economic growth and expand human welfare.

For one week every November, GEW inspires people everywhere through local, national and global activities designed to help them explore their potential as self-starters and innovators. Powered by the Kauffman Foundation, the initiative is supported by dozens of world leaders and a network of more than 15,000 partner organizations. GEW is held November 12-18, 2018.

In addition to the celebratory week, Startup Radio Network will be participating in Global Entrepreneurship Week and will be hosting startups on their show throughout the week for a “Startupathon.” In this article, we will take a look at some of the up and coming startups that will feature on the Startupathon, and what they are doing to make this world a better place.

Monday – Abartys Health

At 10 am on Monday, you won’t want to miss one of the best startups out of Puerto Rico, and quite possibly the US, which has proven that not even a devastating storm could stop its innovation. Abartys Health provides data solutions for seven major health insurers, optimizing medical solutions for more than 1.1 million patients and more than 14,000 doctors. Abartys has created a system that allows seamless data flow and communication between insurers, doctors, and patients with the goal of reducing the $750 billion annual loss in the U.S. healthcare market. Doctors are able to access information in patient files with ease and communicate with other doctors in a centralized healthcare data platform. Meanwhile, patients are able to access their comprehensive healthcare data from any Internet-connected device.

Tuesday – Pretty Good Knowledge

On Tuesday at 10 am you will have the opportunity to hear from the Dutch startup Pretty Good Knowledge, which quite possibly has one of the most interesting backstories behind the company’s founders. Pretty Good Knowledge was founded by famous NSA Whistleblowers Bill Binney, Kirk Wiebe and a team of experienced managers and consultants. In the late 1990’s, their small team in the NSA in the US conceived a highly efficient and privacy-friendly solution to achieve real-time processing of selected, high-value information from massive data environments.

Pretty Good Knowledge is on a mission to help organizations achieve control and confidence about the knowledge and insights they extract from ever-growing sources of data. It provides massive data analytics capabilities using methods which are highly secure and respect privacy.
