What U See Launches App That Lets You Explore the World Through Other Mobile Phone Cameras

Today, What U See launched its location-based live streaming video app on iOS and Android that allows users to scope out potential vacation spots or simply catch-up with friends.

What U See provides users with on-demand access to mobile phone cameras of other users from all over the world. Now people have the chance to gain a live glimpse into a different way of life; from beautiful beach views in Thailand, to real-time events in Time Square.

The live streaming app connects users to camera operators directly, and allows them to give real-time direction and feedback. What U See also allows broadcasters to archive their videos online and share them with their friends over social media. Through latitude and longitude co-ordinates, each archived broadcast is linked to the location it was created in, enabling What U See users to search for and find these videos by location.

“The idea for What U See struck me about 4 years ago while planning a trip with my family,” said one the company’s co-founders, who prefers to stay anonymous at this time. “There were no photos of the town we planned to travel to, and I couldn’t find much about the local area online. It made me think how great it would be to ask people on the ground to send me streaming videos in real time so we could see what it was all about.”

Unlike competing apps, which only provide a means to join current broadcasts and users with public profiles, What U See allows users to actively request a live video stream from other people anonymously. The app also allows the user to subscribe to future live broadcasts from any location he choses, which makes the whole experience of exploring new locations more complete.

What U See is a privately held startup and was developed by a group of entrepreneurs, each with over 15 years of experience in online development, cloud computing, databases and data center technologies.

“It has been a rewarding experience to work with such a talented team of developers. We are looking forward to provide a huge location-based library of video streams – either real-time, archived or both!” added the company’s co-founder.
