This healthtech startup, based out of Broomfield, Colorado, is getting set to help individuals with diabetes from across the globe.

A number of new advancements are being made to better treat diabetes. Several new classes of medications have been introduced during the last decade, including drugs known as SGLT2s and GLP1s, including Trulicity, Victoza, and Ozempic. Scientists are learning the drugs not only help lower blood sugar levels, they also help protect the heart and kidneys. At the same time, access to medication remains an incredible issue.

Humankind Pharma is a company on a mission to provide better access to insulin for individuals with diabetes. The startup provides an advanced prefilled reconstitution syringe that features a low-cost, plastic insulin syringe.

According to the company, “We believe that the discovery of insulin belongs to all of humankind, and we are committed to addressing the underserved type 1 diabetic worldwide population by increasing the availability, accessibility, affordability of insulin.”

Unfortunately today, insulin is not reliably accessible to half of the 463 million diabetics who depend on it. This poor treatment of type 1 diabetes leads to an increased risk for complications like blindness, amputation, and kidney failure, among other issues.

This is also disproportionally impacting regions with fewer resources. In Africa alone, an estimated 321,000 annual deaths are attributed to this challenge.

Humankind Pharma is developing NATIVE, which is an affordable and stable insulin syringe to help overcome the challenges of existing offerings.

In addition to eliminating the need for refrigeration by presenting insulin in a dry formulation, it is low cost due not being in contact with a syringe during storage. The product is designed for simple, high-speed, manufacturing that can be implemented in key target locations.

HumanKind Pharma was founded by Romi Genosar in January of 2021. Her company was earlier named the winner of the Elevation Pitch competition, started by the Colorado chapter of the Founder Institute, the world’s largest pre-seed startup accelerator, and Bold Legal.

The competition was founded to help entrepreneurs in the Mountain West region improve their ideas and put them into action.
