Crowdfunding
Crowdtilt, which targets groups that want to crowdfund but may not be a good fit for Kickstarter or Indiegogo, has closed a $12 million Series A funding round. Founded last year, the company is a Y Combinator graduate that previously raised $2.1 million in Seed funding last May. According to TechCrunch, investors in the Series A include Sean Parker, Andreessen Horowitz, and existing investors that include CrunchFund, DCM, and Felicis.
Mobile
Personal assistant app and Siri competitor Sherpa has landed $1.7 million in Angel funding. The app was released last October and so far is only available to Spanish speakers. More on the funding, from The Droid Guy.
Nearpod, a platform that allows teachers to integrate in-class learning with students’ own mobile devices, has raised $500K in additional Seed funding. Investors include NewSchools Venture Fund and Angels, according to TechCrunch.

ImageBrief, a stock images discovery service and marketplace, has raised $700K in new funding to take on Getty Images—the stock photo standard. The New York City-based company was founded in Australia in 2011 and this latest funding brings its total outside funding to $2.2 million. More about the funding from the Australian Financial Review.
